Fungi (Illustration by Will Drew)

The New Forest is home to a rich variety of fungi with over 2700 species found across its varied landscape. Arguably the most recognised species is the Fly Agaric with its rich red cap covered in white spots. Fungi are important organisms and are different to both plants and animals, they form an important link in the life cycle of the Forest.
